Brian Castro was born in 1950 in Hong Kong of Portuguese, Chinese and English parentage. He has published eight novels, as well as a body of essays on literary topics. Acknowledged for his prose style and brilliant use of language, his work has received wide critical acclaim and won many of the major literary prizes. His work has been translated into Chinese, French and German. In 2014, he was the winner of the Patrick White Award for Literature. He is currently Chair of Creative Writing at The University of Adelaide.
