A Message from the Premier of South Australia

Open State in 2017 promises to address challenges, devise solutions and translate ideas into action.

Building on the success of last year’s inaugural program, Open State has six themes – Future Food, Future Human, Future Enterprise, Future Planet, Future Cities and Future Democracy.

Local, national and international presenters will explore the key questions surrounding these topics and – in the process – encourage us to be bold, original and entrepreneurial in our thinking.

The aims are to create social and economic prosperity for South Australians – including the jobs of the future – and to demonstrate to the world that our State continues to lead and embrace the new.

The conversations we have, the innovations we propose and the plans we set in train during Open State will ultimately yield opportunities and practical benefits for citizens.

I am confident that – by sharing perspectives and questioning long-held assumptions – we can build a more resilient economy and community, a more inclusive polity and a more sustainable South Australia.

I look forward to seeing you at Open State events – especially at venues in the centre of Adelaide’s “square mile” – from 28 September to 8 October 2017.
